How to Provide a Sample
It's easy to get started. You must first register for the program and fill out a short questionnaire. Once enrolled, participants will provide a saliva sample once per week throughout the semester. Pick up a Spartan Spit Kit, follow a few short steps to provide a sample, then return the kit to one of the many convenient locations on campus.
NOTE: Be sure to log your sample's vial number BEFORE you drop your sample at a collection site. Use the QR code on the box, or go to https://go.msu.edu/spartan-spit-sample directly. If you do not log your sample, the lab has no way to connect the sample back to you and unfortunately won't be able to provide you any results.
It's also important to provide a quality sample. Do not eat, drink, smoke/vape for 30 minutes before you collect your saliva, and please provide a sample volume as indicated by the line on the tube (not too much, or too little) or the lab can't run the sample.
Once the sample has been processed, participants can view their result on Spartan Health Check. Possible results include:
- NO ACTION REQUIRED (not recommended for further clinical assessment - please be sure to provide a sample again within 7 days)
- POSITIVE (the University Physician will reach out to those who receive a positive result)
- REJECTED (due to quality issues with the sample)
Visit this safety page for information about the beads used in the kit.
